History of
Singapore car parking facility
Before 1989,
a competitor dominated the car parking system market because:
- Long experience
since 1979.
- They had
built-up and enjoyed cordial relationship with all major car
parking owners.
- No other
vendor had the car parking system.
- Market
share was 100%.
As they are
dominant, it is possible to command very high selling price and
reap high profit margines.
Due to lucrative profit, OSHIKA sets eyes on this market segment
when CASIO Japan launched such system in 1989.
Knowing full well of difficulty and treading on new ground, had
to know how the system works first before competing
Investigation
before selling the product
- To study
the major car park operations
- To patronize
and collect all type of parking receipts
- To understand
their calculations and conditions
- To find out
both good and weak points
Result of Investigation
- 30 percentages
of car parking has less than 100 lots.
- Entry tickets
are either issued manually or from auto ticket dispenser which
the cost is expensive.
Also the management
cost is high :
- Tickets costing
($ 0.15 for 10 pcs)
- Maintenance
- Operation
What was the
problem with the user's system?
- When a car
enters a car park, it needs a ticket dispenser or a ticket warden
to issue entry tickets. This makes operating cost expensive
What was
the specific proposal to the user?
How did the user decide?
CE-4700 car
parking system whose cost is cheap and its function practical
was introduced to the market.
Customers realizes :
- Unexpected
increase of revenue from 15% for some to 150% for others. (Cashiers
can't abuse at will.)
- Substantial
cuts of the operating cost.
- More gains
and less expenses beget the better profit.
- Much better
control over the operation and the improved security.
- Customers
are willing to introduce their other sites for standardization
(Ink-ribbons, paper-rolls and reports)
Improvement
with the CASIO product
- Words spread
that this system works well.
- Other car
parking facilities begin to notice and refer the existing system.
- It takes
advantage of the rising interest in the market and the user capitalizes
on it.
- Took advantage
of the rising interest in the market and capitalized on it
Oshika car
number tracking system
It is possible
to install Oshika's system in car parks which has "Entry" and
"Exit" points in different locations for both "Time" or "Car no."
tracking. However, for "Car no." tracking, a camera at the "Entry"
point is required to relay and display the car no. in a monitor
in the cashier's booth at the "Exit" point. After the cashier
registers the car no. into the ECR, the "Entry" barrier is opened
by the ECR which is connected by wire to the barrier. Before leaving
the car park, the cashier registers the time of entry or the car
no., depending on which tracking type used, and the parking fee
is computed. Upon pressing the finalization key on the ECR, the
"Exit" barrier is opened by the ECR which is connected by wire
to the barrier.
