Summary of the story

Starbucks Coffee International is the leading retailer and roaster of specialty coffee in North America. In addition to its near 2,000 retail location in North America, the United Kingdom and the Pacific Rim, Starbucks sells whole bean coffees through its specialty sales group, direct response business and supermarkets.

Starbucks joint venture the major food supply and convenient chain store group company in Taiwan - the President Group as the President coffee Corporation in 1997 and has its first store open in March 1998. Currently he has a chain of 25 stores in Taipei and will be 30 stores at the end of this year 1999.

In each store two CASIO SA-5000TF (2-station printer, 120 keys flat keyboard) with back-office computer in a 32-bit Windows NT environment have been installed. All stores are connected to the head office in Taipei by dial modem or cable modem.

HYI designed a unique system for Starbucks to support distributed real-time transaction specifically for the retail industry and store manager can have its real-time report to monitor her/his profit, stock and inventory, purchase advice, ordering / adjustments and employee audit / time attendance. HYI also modified the printer to meet government unified receipt format and Chinese character printing.
